Description |
Military helmet has an oval crown and wide brim. It has a black oilcloth and leather cap with a cord around the edge, on the inside and a felt head support. There is a cotton webbing chin strap attached to the inside of the crown and continuing to a metal support on either side and to buckle. The helmet is painted dark brown with sand sprinkled on some of the outside. A paper label on the inside of the crown "TIGHTEN CORD AND ADJUST NET TO FIT THE HEAD". |

History |
Maude Bowman (1885-1968) was a daughter of Leander Bowman (1865-1937) and Rebecca Snider Bowman (1855-1929) of West Montrose, ON. Maude was a Nursing Sister who served in the First World War. She originally enlisted in Britain's Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service in 1915 and was stationed in Egypt. Maude then enlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corps in August of 1916. She spent the remainder of the war serving in England and France. |
