History |
Frederick G. Hoffman (1845-1926) was an Ontario wood carver. It is not known from where he originated but it is quite possible that his home was once Philadelphia since many of his works were signed in this manner. Hoffman became well liked and known to several Amish and Mennonite families. From 1895 until 1926 he would travel back and forth, spending the winter months in Amish homes near Punkeydoodles corners (southwest of New Hamburg) and summer months, travelling by foot, to stay with Mennonite families in Woolich Township. Not one who enjoyed working in the barn, he would earn his stay sometimes carving objects for his hosts. |
