History |
Gleason Vernorman Oberholtzer (1866-1900) founded the G.V. Oberholtzer Shoe Company around 1889. The factory was located at 117 Weber St. West in Berlin/Kitchener. In 1902, the business was sold to brothers, Noah (1858-1928) and Daniel (1869-1934) Detweiler. The company name was changed to the Hydro City Shoe Company during the First World War. After the brothers passed, the company was run by Jacob Gies (1869-1934). The firm was then operated by a trust company until 1938, when it was sold to Harvey W. Ziegler. Harvey sold the business in 1963 to Robert Goldsworthy. The company stopped manufacturing shoes in April of 1970. |
