History |
Jacob Baetz Sr. (1852-1920) came to Berlin, ON in 1868. For many years he was a business associate of John S. Anthes in the Anthes Furniture Company. In 1908, Jacob built a factory at 264 Victoria Street for his sons, Charles J. Baetz (1882-1961) and Jacob H. Baetz (1884-1981), who founded the Baetz Furniture Company. In 1916, they established the Baetz Specialty Company to make floor and table lamps. In 1918, the brothers purchased an interest in the Anthes Furniture Company, which later became known as the Anthes-Baetz Company. This factory was located at 242 Breithaupt Street until the early 1970s. In 1976, Westwind Limited assumed ownership of the Baetz Furniture Company and continued to operate it under this name until the mid-1980s. |
