Description |
Harness awl has a thick, diamond-shaped blade attached to a wooden handle with a metal chuck. The chuck is cone-shaped with an indent on either side. It can be loosened to remove the blade. The handle is turned and has a rounded knob at the end. It is decorated with a double incised line and is golden in colour. Stamped on the handle is "Arrow/No.2". |

History |
A harness awl is used to make holes in leather to prepare the way for the thread. A diamond-shaped blade makes for easier penetration into the leather, and the shape of the hole allows the thread to lay neatly. |
