Description |
Translucent, green glass beer bottle. Original contents are still in the bottle. Cap is in place. Two paper labels adhered to the front of the bottle. The label around the neck has an image of a red cap in the centre and "Red Cap" printed in red on either side. Printed along the upper edge is "Awarded Grand Prize - Luxembourgh 1951"; along the lower edge " Finest Brew of Any Canadian Ale, Beer or Stout". The second label is oval with a head shot of a jockey wearing a red cap in the centre. Printed above the jockey is "Brewed Also in the United States at Cleveland, Ohio/Red Cap/Contents 12 Fl. Oz/Union Made". Printed below is "The Carling Breweries Limited/Waterloo, Ontario, Canada/Founded 1840/LCBO". Printed around the outer edge of the label is "Carling's/Red Cap Ale". There are two mould seams up the sides of the bottle. Metal cap also has an image of a red cap on it. Embossed on the bottom of the bottle is "Bottle Made in UK/E A 1 3". |

History |
In 1936, the Kuntz Brewery of Waterloo, ON and the Carling Brewery of London, ON amalgamated to form the Carling-Kuntz Breweries. Production was centralized at the Waterloo plant. In 1944, Kuntz was removed from the name when the company reorganized as Carling Breweries Limited. The company was sold to Labatt in 1977. The building was located at William and Caroline Streets in Waterloo and was demolished in 1993. |
