History |
David Kuntz started a brewery in Waterloo, ON in the early 1850s. Between 1870 and 1873, David's son, Louis, took over the management of the business and it was renamed The L. Kuntz Park Brewery. In 1910, Louis' three sons - David, William, & Herbert - incorporated the business and formed Kuntz Brewery Limited. Prohibition forced the company to concentrate on export beer sales and soft drinks. Brewing operations began again after Prohibition but by 1929 the company was in tax arrears and became part of Canadian Breweries. In 1936, Kuntz and Carling Brewery of London, ON amalgamated and formed Carling-Kuntz Breweries. In 1944, the company was reorganized and renamed Carling Breweries Limited, and in 1977, the company was bought out by Labatt. |
