History |
S. Sauder & Company was founded by Solomon Sauder (1852-1943) around 1886 in Berlin/Kitchener. The store was located at 16 King Street East. The company carried dry goods and clothing for men and children. The company was purchased in 1909 by Solomon's son, Eugene Adam Sauder (1887-1958). In 1914, Eugene partnered with Herman Lippert (1886-1965) to create the Sauder-Lippert clothing stores. They operated two locations - the original at 16 King Street East and one at 78 King Street West. The stores were eventually taken over by Eugene's son, Robert "Bob" Sauders (1921-1989). One of the stores moved to Westmount Place in Waterloo. The business closed in the early 1990s. |
