History |
Abraham Witmer (1865-1948) was born in Huron County. He married Matilda Strickler (1866-1947) in 1886, and in 1894, they were among a group of Mennonite families who moved to Didsbury, Alberta. After a forest fire destroyed their property in 1910, they moved back to Ontario, and began farming in Blandford Township, Oxford County. Sometime between 1911 and 1921, they moved to Berlin and Abraham began working for the Breithaupt Leather Company. The family lived at 17 Chapel Street in Kitchener. Whittling, or ''Schnitzeling'', was popular among older men of the time. |
