Description |
Two piece wedding dress of grey silk. The bodice or basque is short waisted with a V-shaped yoke at front and back. Front has four dart seams. Back is in three pieces. Dropped shoulders with piping around seam. Sleeve opening curves up toward the back and is trimmed with cream/brown fringe, lace frill and cream silk bow. Bodice fastens at centre front with hooks-and-eyes. Front trim of six silk covered buttons. Also two buttons at back waistline. Lace collar. Yoke and bottom edge are trimmed with cream-brown fringes. Lined with grey cotton. Hand and machine sewn. (collar, six buttons, part of fringe from around the neck, and bow and fringe from right sleeve are packed separately) Skirt has centre front box pleat. Skirt back is full, gauged at back. Skirt is slightly longer at the back. Skirt opening l.p. front, fastening with hooks-and-eyes. Pocket at right front proper side. Black dust braid around side panels slightly gored. Unlined. |

History |
David H. Clemens (1852-1934) was a son of David M. Clemens (1818-1887) and Sarah Hagey (1823-1879) from near Roseville, North Dumfries Township. On September 24, 1872, David H. married Lucinda Huber (1852-1908), a daughter of John S. Huber (1814-1896) and Catherina Schlichter (1823-1886) of Blenheim Township, Oxford Township. After their marriage, David and Lucinda farmed at Lot 4, Concession 12, Blenheim Township, near Washington. They had nine children. |
