History |
The R. McDougall Company was founded by Robert McDougall (1829-1911), eldest son of John McDougall (1802-1895) who built McDougall Cottage in Cambridge, ON. The company began manufacturing hand pumps as early as 1880 and operated under the R. McDougall name until 1951 when it was purchased by another company. The company manufactured hand and power pumps, metal tools, and industrial lathes. The foundry was located adjacent to the Grand Trunk Railway tracks and south of Main Street in Galt. As of 2013, that is in the area of Bruce Street and Wellington Street South in Cambridge. The site is now a townhouse development called Wellington Square. |
