Description |
Folding table and stand: a) folding table top is rectangular in shape with slats lying side by side and attached to a cross slat at either end. On two opposite corners is a slat which swivels on a rivet, and swings across the end to attach to a peg making the table firm. The end slats have a small square piece cut out of the inside edge which fits on to the top of the stand. The table top rolls closed and can be held in place by a leather strap and buckle. On a piece of tape on the top is "M. BOWMAN, N.S.". b) folding stand has cross slat legs at each end and are attached to crossed metal strips. Across the top of the legs is are two metal strips joined together at one end with a rivet that allows the strips to snap down to hold the stand firm. The top of the legs have a notch to fit on to the end slats of the table top. According to the original catalogue record, the table was 'used to support canvas bath'. (970.020.023) |

History |
Maude Bowman (1885-1968) was a daughter of Leander Bowman (1865-1937) and Rebecca Snider Bowman (1855-1929) of West Montrose, ON. Maude was a Nursing Sister who served in the First World War. She originally enlisted in Britain's Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service in 1915 and was stationed in Egypt. Maude then enlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corps in August of 1916. She spent the remainder of the war serving in England and France. |
