History |
Joseph Clementson (1794-1871) - later Clementson Brothers (his sons) - were potters from 1839 until the early 1900s in the Staffordshire potteries area of England. Clementson had a strong connection to Canada, coming to Ontario in the 1830s to assess the Canadian market. One of his sons operated a china business in Saint John, New Brunswick and imported goods from the family firm in England. The tea service belonged to Mary Wenger Meyer (1814-1868) of Woolwich Township. Mary was married to John Meyer (1808-1883), and their daughter, Sarah Meyer (1843-1926) married David B. Schneider (1840-1928). David was a grandson of Joseph Schneider (1772-1843) and Barbara Eby (1774-1843). According to the donor, Sarah inherited the tea service from her mother, which was then passed into the Schneider/Snyder family. |
