Description |
a) This is an inkwell that has been made out of the fuse cap of a British artillery shell. The top of the inkwell lifts off with a (what appears to be a uniform button with a crest on it) soldered to the side. There is an incised scale (0-22) around the bottom of the inkwell. The bottom of the inkwell is concave and fits over a circular peg on a wooden base. b) The wooden base is rectangular in shape with a wavy edge along the top. The base is decorated with two carved flowers with an elongated concave area for pens along the bottom. "No. 7 CANADIAN GEN HP. BOMBED MAY 19, 1918" |

History |
Maude Bowman (1885-1968) was a daughter of Leander Bowman (1865-1937) and Rebecca Snider Bowman (1855-1929) of West Montrose, ON. Maude was a Nursing Sister who served in the First World War. She originally enlisted in Britain's Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service in 1915 and was stationed in Egypt. Maude then enlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corps in August of 1916. She spent the remainder of the war serving in England and France. |
