Description |
Wooden, free-standing cabinet stained a reddish brown. Cabinet is attached to a wooden base with four wheels by a central metal pole on the interior. The pole allows the cabinet to revolve. Mother-of-pearl door and drawer pulls. The front section is divided into three parts - the upper part has a metal lined, pull down door with shelves, the central part has a set of double doors with built-in wooden holders for tools, and the lower part has double doors with shelving. The left section is divided into two parts - the upper part is a series of 11 drawers of various sizes. Most of the drawers have built-in wooden dividers and holders for tools. The lower section has a central bin that is lined with metal. It is hinged and pulls out and down. The right section is solid, decorative wood. The back is divided into two parts - both have double doors and shelving. |

History |
According to the donor, the cabinet was used by Dr. Samuel Eckel (1880-1960). He was a graduate of the University of Chicago and graduated from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons at the University of Toronto in 1907. In the 1911 census, Dr. Samuel Eckel is listed as a lodger on William Street in Waterloo. Eckel was a dentist in Waterloo for around 50 years. |
