History |
David B. Horst (1873-1965) was an Old Order Mennonite and one of the most versatile of Mennonite woodcarvers. He produced carvings of small animals throughout the late 1930's and early 1940's. These animals were carved after 1935, following a stroke which left him paralyzed on one side. He began to carve seriously in his sixties, carving many of his animals for small children, friends or family. He usually used basswood, sometimes pine. |
