Description |
Silver medal in the shape of a cross with the four arms of equal length. In the centre of the cross is the Royal Cypher GRVI. A laurel wreath surrounds the centre, approximately half way down the length of the arms. The uppermost arm is topped with a crown while the other arms are topped with a maple leaf. On the reverse "PO G.B. Loney/J18815" is engraved. Stamped into the lowest arm on the reverse is the marker's mark "Lackie Sterling" with a C and a square in the centre of the words. There is a suspension ring at the top of the medal, through which a second metal ring has been attached. A length of purple ribbon runs through the second ring. |

History |
The Canadian Memorial Cross was instituted in 1918 and was awarded to mothers and widows of all military servicemen whose death was attributable to war service. A paper label with the cross states that this medal was awarded to Mrs. William A. Loney in memory of P.O. Glen B. Loney who died in the service of his country on December 13, 1943. |
