Description |
Awl with a short, diamond-shaped blade. The blade is made from steel and is attached to a wooden handle with a rounded end. The handle tapers in toward the blade and has an incised double line decoration. There is a cone-shaped brass ferrule where the blade and handle join. No maker's mark. |

History |
A harness awl is used to make holes in leather to prepare the way for the thread. A diamond-shaped blade makes for easier penetration into the leather, and the shape of the hole allows the thread to lay neatly. |
