History |
Ice was an important aspect of the early brewing process and, locally, the Huether Brewing Company, later renamed Blue Top Brewing and then Ranger Brewing, also sold their own brand of ice. Operating from 1930 through the mid-1950s, the Tri-Pure Ice Company (also known as the Kitchener Tri-Pure Ice Company and the Ranger Ice Company) made blocks of ice to cool the brewery's delivery trucks. They also sold the ice to other local businesses and the public. In addition to delivering ice around Kitchener and Waterloo, the company also had a self-serve, coin operated station at the brewery on King Street West in Kitchener. Individual bags of ice cubes and up to 50 lb blocks where available for a quarter each in 1951. |
