History |
The Western Shoe Company was owned by James Jackson Kilgour (1864-1951) of Winnipeg, Manitoba. James owned several shoe manufacturing and shoe retail businesses in both Ontario and Manitoba. The company began in 1908 and was located at 236 Victoria Street North in Berlin/Kitchener. In 1927, the company was purchased by Roy C. Bauer (1895-1989) of the Bauer Shoe Company and Bauer Canadian Skate. Western Shoe continued to operate under its original name but began manufacturing the upper boots for ice skates for Bauer. In 1965, all of the Bauer family businesses were purchased by Greb Shoes of Kitchener and were operated as part of that company. |
