The Freeport Bridge is a multiple-scan concrete bowstring arch bridge spanning the Grand River in the City of Kitchener. The bridge in the photograph is the fourth version to have existed at this location since 1820. Built in 1925-1926, the bridge was designed by A.B. Crealock, Bridge Engineer for the Province of Ontario in the 1920s. The building contract was awarded to Campbell and Lattimore of Toronto but the actual construction was completed by Campbell & Gzowski, the company that held the concrete contracts for Hamilton and Kitchener projects. the construction of the bridge cost an estimated $85,000. In 2001, the bridge was designated for its heritage and architectural value by the City of Kitchener. |
