History |
CKCO-TV began broadcasting March 1, 1954 from a transmitter located on Baden Hill in Wilmot Township. The call letters stood for Canada, Kitchener, Central Ontario. The station was an affiliate of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) until 1964, when it became affiliated with CTV. The station was originally owned by Central Ontario Television, a consortium that included Famous Players and Carl A. Pollock. Electrohome acquired control of CKCO in 1970, when Canadian broadcasting laws required domestic ownership of stations. As of 2010, the station is owned by CTVglobemedia and no longer uses its call letters. It is instead referred to as CTV Southwestern Ontario. Bill Stewart (1926-2006) worked as a Program Manager at CKCO-TV in the 1970s. |
