History |
Valentine R. Berlet (1858-1933) operated a tailor shop at 5201 Ament Line in Linwood from 1894 to 1913. The property was also known as Williams Survey Plan 615 Lot 1. The business was located in the front right hand corner of the house while the family lived behind the shop. In July of 1900, Valentine also opened an ice cream parlour at the rear of the shop. In 1913, Valentine accepted a position with the Berlin Robe and Clothing Co., and the family moved to Berlin. He had a yearly salary of $1500.00. He sold the Linwood business to Henry Barlett for $2500.00 in 1915. The retail area at the front of the house was used for various businesses over the years. In 1978 the Bank of Nova Scotia purchased the lot and demolished the house. As of 2009, a branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia is still at this location. |
