History |
The Elmdale School opened as a one room school in 1844. It was located west of Kitchener on the north side of Highway 7. In 1907, it was rebuilt in brick. The school was named Elmdale because of the large elm trees located nearby. The school closed in 1965. Emily Seibert was a teacher at the school from 1948-1954. She was an active supporter, lobbyist, volunteer and board member of Doon Pioneer Village/Heritage Crossroads in the 1950s and 1960s. Her childhood home was moved to the site in the 1970s. |
