History |
Raymond's Nut Shops was founded by Raymond Gibney (1913-1989) in 1935. The first store was located beside the Lyric Theatre at 124 King Street West in Kitchener. A second store was opened at 125 King Street East and a factory at 33 Queen Street South by the mid-1940s. Retail outlets were also opened in Galt, Owen Sound, Hamilton, and Brockville. The company produced various peanut and nut products. Under the Jack's Snacks brand name, the company produced popcorn and cheese puffs. A larger manufacturing facility was built at 3065 King Street East in Kitchener in 1961. The company was sold to Borden Limited in 1966 and the company name was changed to Raymond Snack Foods Limited in 1968. The company closed in the mid-1970s and the factory was purchased by Pepsi in 1976. |
