History |
Ornamental Mouldings and Carvings Limited was founded by William Riedlinger (1896-1960) in the mid-1930s. It produced embossed and carved wood mouldings and ornaments for the Canadian furniture industry. The factory was located on King Street in Waterloo, ON. In the 1954 Vernon's City Directory, William's sons are listed as secretary (Gordon) and vice-president (Harvey) of the company. The company expanded into the United States by establishing American Ornamental Inc. in High Point, NC in 1969. Harvey becomes president and Gordon vice-president, and the Waterloo factory is located at 289 Marsland Drive. In the early 1980s, when the Canadian furniture industry declined, the company switched to manufacturing decorative architectural mouldings and millwork. In 2001, the company was known as The Ornamental Group, and had three factories in North Carolina, the Waterloo factory, and contact plants in China. It was the largest supplier of mouldings and millwork to Home Depot and Lowe's Home Improvement stores. By this time, Gordon's sons, Paul and Robert, were involved with the management of the company. In 2006, Tenon Limited purchased the company, and the Waterloo factory was closed in 2012. |
