History |
Both the Capitol and Lyric movie theatres opened in Kitchener in 1921. The Lyric was located at 122 King Street West, and the Capitol at 90 King Street West. The Lyric also hosted live theatre events in addition to movies. It closed as a theatre in 1991. The Capitol Theatre showed the first "talkie" in Kitchener in 1929, Interface. The Capitol also had private boxes and an orchestra pit for its eight piece orchestra. |
